Three weekends ago, Woodloch hosted the annual "BK Hope Cures 5K" Run/Walk. All proceeds benefitted LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
Bob Kiesendahl, along with his mother Joan, established the "Hope Cures" foundation in 1999 during Bob's battle with leukemia. Against the odds and with the help and prayers of family and friends, Bob won the fight. He then channelled all of his efforts into helping others through his foundation. Since its inception, the organization has raised over $700,000 to help countless individuals coping with the same set of circumstances. One of these annual fundraisers is the 5K.
Sunday, June 3rd brought a wonderful sight to the shores of Lake Teedyuskung. The event had an overwhelming amount of support. Overall, there were almost 300 participants of all ages! Runners had the option to run in three categories: "in honor of," "in memory of," or "I'm a survivor." At the sound of the starting gun, some sprinted, some jogged, and some walked - but all finished! Afterwards, everyone gathered for a famous Woodloch Cookout.
Leading the men's division was Brooks Jensen of Hawley, PA, with a final time of 17:06.3. Dominating the ladies division was Christine Donnelly of Eldred, NY, who set the pace at 19:00.1. A complete breakdown of results can be found here. In our books, you are ALL winners!
A very special thanks goes out to Pocono Produce Company, SYSCO Foodservice, PEPSI, Boar’s Head Tom Butler Provisions, C&C Rental, Brucelli Advertising, and Bold Gold Media for their continued support.
The next event on the Hope Cures agenda is "The BK Invitational," a benefit golf tournament tentatively scheduled for September 30th and October 1st at the Country Club at Woodloch Springs. So hit the links this summer, get plenty of practice in, and be ready to join us this fall for GREAT times with GREAT friends . . . all for a GREAT cause!
